Everyday is a new day. New opportunities, new challenges, new ways to become a stronger, better version of ourselves. Too often however, these routine possibilities are taken for granted because of limited vision or foresight. Each person is different, that’s for sure, but how can it ever be possible that we let slip away what is wholly ours? Our lives.
I first watched the “Dead Poets’ Society” in my high school English class, and the words of Mr. Keating (magnificently portrayed by the late Robin Williams), which were later echoed passionately by his students, still strike me today—“Carpe Diem”—a Latin phrase most often translated as “seize the day”. It was anthemic to me then, but even more meaningful now. Each day is more precious than the one before it, but it’s easy to deny that day without recognizing its capacity to benefit.
My resolution: Live “Carpe Diem”. Seize every day. Recognize every day’s prospects. Profit from what I accomplish. Love life.
